Babri Masjid Verdict: All 32 accused including Advani, Joshi acquitted; demolition 'not pre-planned', observes court

Nearly 28 years after the Babri Masjid was razed by a mob in Uttar Pradesh, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Lucknow on Wednesday has acquitted all the 32 accused in the case, including BJP veterans LK Advani and MM Joshi. The court said there was no "conclusive proof" against the accused.

“They have been acquitted for lack of evidence,” defence lawyer KK Mishra said.

As CBI Judge SK Yadav began reading the 2,000-page order on Wednesday, the court observed that evidence against the accused was not strong enough and the Babri Mosque demolition incident "was not pre-planned". The court observed that the people who demolished the mosque were “anti-national elements”. The accused people were, in fact, trying to control the crowds, the judgement added, reported News18.

The 32 accused persons include former deputy prime minister Advani, former Union ministers Joshi and Uma Bharti, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, during whose tenure the structure was pulled down, besides Vinay Katiyar and Sadhvi Rithambara. Champat Rai, the general secretary of the trust in charge of constructing the temple, is also among the accused.

The CBI, which went into the case, produced 351 witnesses and 600 documents as evidence before the court. Charges were framed against 48 people, but 16 had died during the course of the trial.

Twenty-six out of the 32 accused were present in the special court when the judgment was pronounced. Advani (92), Joshi (86), Bharti (61), Singh (88), Nritya Gopal Das, and Satish Pradhan were not present in court and attended proceedings via video conferencing on Wednesday.

On 16 September, CBI judge SK Yadav had directed all 32 surviving accused to remain present in the court for the judgment. However, six of them were exempted from being present in person – including Bharti and Kalyan Singh who are in hospital due to COVID-19 – had joined the hearing on Wednesday via video conference.

In one of the first reactions to the Babri conspiracy case verdict, Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi tweeted "Jai Shri Ram". "All the accused, including Advaniji, acquitted. There was no pre-planned conspiracy to demolish the Babri structure," he added.

“I was witness to the entire incident of 6 December,” the Bihar minister further added. “It was all spontaneous no conspiracy. I was conducting the meeting from dais I was surprised when some Kar Sewaks climbed the Babri structure. Advani ji was unhappy. Satyameva Jayate!”

Reacting to the verdict, the two accused BJP leaders, LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi also reacted to the judgement, welcoming it.  Senior BJP leader Advani said he welcomes the significant verdict. He adds that the judgement “vindicates my personal and BJP’s belief towards the Ram Janmabhoomi movement”, as per NDTV reports.

"It's a historic decision by the court. This proves that no conspiracy was hatched for December 6 incident in Ayodhya. Our program and rallies were not part of any conspiracy. We are happy, everyone should now be excited about Ram Mandir's construction," BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said after the verdict, news agency ANI reported.

Defence Minister and BJP leader Rajnath Singh welcomed the CBI court’s judgment, saying "It proves that justice triumphed however late it may be."

Welcoming the CBI court's verdict in Babri Masjid demolition case, BJP leader Ram Madhav tweeted saying: "Truth triumphs". "CBI court’s acquittal in Babri conspiracy case was long overdue. A malicious case against some of the most respected leaders of our nation has fallen aside finally after 3 decades," said Madhav.

The mosque was pulled down on 6 December, 1992, by mobs of kar sevaks who maintained that it was built during the time of the first Mughal ruler at the spot which marked the birthplace of Ram temple.

In a landmark judgment last year, the Supreme Court allotted the disputed site in Ayodhya for the construction of a Ram temple, while calling the demolition of the mosque a violation of the rule of law.

The top court had also said that the demolition of Babri Masjid was illegal and directed the government to acquire an alternative plot of land to build a mosque.

The earlier deadline set by the Supreme Court for the special CBI court to pronounce verdict was August-end. It was extended by a month on 22 August.

Mumbai Police summons Anurag Kashyap over alleged sexual assault case

Mumbai Police have issued summons to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in connection with a rape case filed against him by actress Payal Ghosh, an official said on Wednesday.

Kashyap has been asked to appear before the Versova police here on Thursday, 1 October, for further probe into the case registered against him nine days back, the official said.

The Versova police registered an FIR against Kashyap on 22 September after the actress along with her lawyer Nitin Satpute approached the police, the official said.

In her police complaint, the actress alleged that Kashyap raped her in 2013.

On Tuesday, Ghosh and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale met Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari to seek action against Kashyap.

After the meeting, Athawale told reporters that the governor said he will speak with Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on the issue.

On Monday, Ghosh in a joint media press conference with Athawale, president of the Republican Party of India (RPI-A), demanded that Kashyap be arrested.

Athawale on Monday met Mumbai's joint commissioner of police (law and order) Vishwas Nangare Patil along with Ghosh, seeking action against the filmmaker.

The Union minister had also said his party will stage a protest if the police do not arrest Kashyap in a week.

The Versova police last week registered the FIR against Kashyap under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty,), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 342 (wrongful confinement).

KMAT 2020: Registration ends today, apply at kmatindia.com; aptitude test on 29 October

KMAT 2020 | Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) 2020 will be conducted on 29 October. Candidates who wish to appear for the test conducted for admission to MBA, PGDM, MCA programmes offered by colleges in Karnataka will have to register by 30 September

The admit card for KMAT 2020 will be released by Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association (KPPGCA) in October. KPPGCA has on its website said, "In view of COVID 19, the test method and dates are subject to change."

According to a report by The Indian Express, the aptitude test will have 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Candidates will get a composite time of two hours to answer the paper.

A Times Now report said that KMAT 2020 will be conducted in an online proctored mode.

The exam comprise of three sections - Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. Each section will have 40 questions.

Steps to apply for KMAT 2020:

Step 1: Log onto KPPGCA website - kmatindia.com.

Step 2: Under Quick Link on the homepage, opt for ‘apply now’.

Step 3: You will be directed to a new page where you will have to register first.

Step 4: Head back to the registration page and login using your credentials.

Step 5: Fill the application form and upload all the relevant documents in appropriate format.

Step 6: Pay the application fee and press submit.

Step 7: Take a photocopy of the application form as a proof of acknowledgement.

Candidates applying for MBA or MCA will be required to pay online application fee of Rs 800. Those who want to appear for both the MBA and MCA admission test will have to register separately for each test.

KMAT, an all-India exam, is conducted for admission to AICTE approved/ University affiliated Management Institutes in Bengaluru and Karnataka.

सांवले रंग की वजह से प्रियंका चोपड़ा के हाथ से गई थी कई फिल्में, बिपाशा बसु को रिश्तेदार कहते थे काली

महिलाओं की खूबसूरती को अक्सर उनके रंग से जोड़कर देखा जाता है। आमतौर पर गोरे रंग वाली लड़कियों को सुंदर माना जाता है और सांवली लड़कियों को समाज में दोयम दर्जे का समझा जाता है। हालांकि समय के साथ यह धारणा बदल गई है लेकिन कुछ बॉलीवुड एक्ट्रेसेस को भी इस रंगभेद से गुजरना पड़ा है।

हाल ही में शाहरुख खान की बेटी सुहाना को भी उनके सांवले रंग की वजह से सोशल मीडिया पर ट्रोलिंग का सामना करना पड़ा। उन्हें काली और चुड़ैल तक कहा गया जिसका सुहाना ने करारा जवाब भी दिया। बॉलीवुड में और भी एक्ट्रेसेस हैं जिन्हें अपने सांवले रंग की वजह से आलोचना का सामना करना पड़ा लेकिन इससे घबराए बिना उन्होंने अपना मुकाम बनाया।

प्रियंका चोपड़ा

इंटरनेशनल सेलिब्रिटी बन चुकीं प्रियंका चोपड़ा भी अपने सांवले रंग की वजह से रंगभेद की शिकार हो चुकी हैं। एक इंटरव्यू में उन्होंने इस बारे में बात करते हुए कहा था, मुझे रोल देने से इसलिए मना कर दिया गया था कि मैं कुछ ज्यादा ही ब्राउन हूं। रंगभेद से निपटने का तरीका एक ही है कि अपने काम से खुद को इतना प्रूफ कर दें कि सामने वाला आपके साथ टेबल पर बैठने को राजी हो जाए। मैं देश में भी अपने काम के दम पर ही टिकी थी। मेरा काम बोलता है।

इसके अलावा बचपन में जब प्रियंका जब अमेरिका में पढ़ाई करने गई थीं तब भी उन्हें रंगभेद का शिकार होना पड़ा था। प्रियंका ने कहा था, 'जब मैं 12 साल की थी तो अमेरिका में स्कूली पढ़ाई के लिए गई थी। सब मुझे ब्राउनी कहकर बुलाते थे। मैंने जिंदगी में बहुत नस्लभेद सहा है। वो कहते थे कि हम भारतीय सिर हिलाकर बात करते हैं। हमारा मजाक उड़ाया जाता है। हम घर पर जो खाना बनाते हैं, उस खाने की महक का मजाक उड़ाया जाता है। इन्हीं तानों से तंग आकर मैंने अमेरिका छोड़ा और भारत आ गई।

बिपाशा बसु

बिपाशा बसु को भी सांवले रंग की वजह से बचपन से ही ताने सुनने को मिले। इसका जिक्र उन्होंने सोशल मीडिया पर किया था। बिपाशा ने लिखा था, 'जब मैं बड़ी हो रही थी तो मैंने अक्सर सुना कि मैं काली और सांवली हूं। जबकि मेरी मां भी डस्की ब्यूटी थीं और मैं काफी हद तक उनकी तरह ही लगती थी। मुझे कभी पता नहीं चला कि मेरे रिश्तेदार इस बारे में चर्चा क्यों करते थे'।

जब में 15,16 साल की थी तब मॉडलिंग शुरू की। मैंने सुपरमॉडल कॉन्टेस्ट जीता था। हर न्यूजपेपर में खबर थी कि कोलकाता की सांवली लड़की विनर बनी। मैंने फिर सोचा कि मेरे नाम का पहला विश्लेषण सांवली क्यों है। फिर मैं न्यूयॉर्क और पेरिस गई मॉडलिंग करने के लिए और मुझे एहसास हुआ कि मेरे स्किन कलर के लिए मुझे यहां ज्यादा काम और ध्यान मिलता है। ये मेरी अलग खोज थी।

जब मैं वापस आई तो मुझे फिल्म के ऑफर मिलना शुरू हुए। आखिरकार मैंने अपनी पहली फिल्म की, मैं इंडस्ट्री से पूरी तरह अजनबी थी। अचानक ही मुझे अपना लिया गया और पसंद किया गया। मगर विश्लेषण जुड़ा रहा। सांवली लड़की ने अपनी डेब्यू फिल्म से ऑडियंस को इंप्रेस किया। मेरे ज्यादातर आर्टिकल में मैंने जितना काम किया उससे ज्यादा चर्चा मेरे रंग की थी। मैं इसे नहीं समझ पाई। मेरे ख्याल से सेक्सी एक पर्सनालिटी है ना कि रंग। क्यों मेरे सांवलेपन के चलते मुझे बाकी एक्ट्रेस से अलग समझा गया। मुझे ज्यादा फर्क नहीं समझ आता मगर लोग बनाते हैं।

यहां एक मानसिकता है खूबसूरती की और कैसे एक एक्ट्रेस को दिखना और बिहेव करना चाहिए। मगर मैं अलग थी। इसने मुझे कभी वो करने से नहीं रोका जो मुझे पसंद है। मैं कॉन्फीडेंट थी जो मैं बचपन से हूं। मेरा स्किन कलर मुझे डिफाइन नहीं करता। मुझे ये पसंद है और मैं इसे नहीं बदलना चाहती।

रेखा

रेखा शुरुआती दिनों में सांवली और मोटी हुआ करती थीं। बॉलीवुड में रेखा को 1970 में फिल्म 'सावन भादो ' में पहला ब्रेक मिला लेकिन उन्हें अपने सांवले रंग के कारण काफी आलोचना झेलनी पड़ी थी जिसके बाद रेखा ने अपने लुक्स में जबरदस्त बदलाव किया। कहा जाता है कि इसके लिए उन्होंने स्किन लाइटनिंग ट्रीटमेंट लिया था। रेखा आज भी अपने समय की अभिनेत्रियों में सबसे ग्लैमरस और खूबसूरत नजर आती हैं।

नंदिता दास

फायर जैसी बेहतरीन फिल्म में नजर आ चुकीं नंदिता भी अपने सांवले रंग के चलते परेशान रहीं। उन्हें इसी वजह से कई प्रोजेक्ट्स से हाथ धोना पड़ा।

नंदिता दास ने एक बार कहा था, 'हम अक्सर रंगभेद का शिकार होते रहते हैं। लोग कहते रहते हैं कि वह गोरी है। जैसे कि डार्क स्किन होना अच्छी बात नहीं है। फिल्मों और गानों में भी इसी बात को बढ़ावा दिया जाता है। इस बात में कोई दो राय नहीं है कि गानों ने भी रंगभेद को बढ़ावा देने में अपना भरपूर योगदान दिया है। अक्सर गानों के बोल गोरे रंग की ओर ही इशारा करते हैं।

गानों में कलाइयां हमेशा गोरी ही रही हैं। गोरा रंग काला न पड़ जाए, गोरे रंग पर इतना गुमान कर, गोरी तेरा गांव बड़ा प्यारा जैसे गीतों से लेकर चिट्टियां कलाइयां वे, जैसे कई गाने हैं, जिसे सुनकर लोगों के जेहन में खूबसूरती की परिभाषा केवल गोरा रंग होकर रह गई है।

शहाणा गोस्वामी

'रॉक ऑन', 'रा.वन','हीरोइन' जैसी फिल्मों में नजर आ चुकीं एक्ट्रेस शहाणा गोस्वामी ने भी एक इंटरव्यू के दौरान कहा था,'बॉलीवुड में मेरे जैसी सांवले रंग की लड़कियों की अपेक्षा गोरे रंग की लड़कियों को प्राथमिकता ज्यादा दी जाती है। मैं एक बार अपने सांवले रंग की वजह से एक फिल्म से बाहर निकाल दी गई थी।'

राधिका आप्टे

'पैडमैन','मांझी: द माउंटेन मैन','अंधाधुन' जैसी फिल्मों की एक्ट्रेस रह चुकीं राधिका को भी अपने सांवले रंग की वजह इंडस्ट्री में लोगों के ताने सुनने पड़े थे। कई लोगों कहा कि वह इंडस्ट्री के लायक नहीं हैं, वह कभी अभिनेत्री नहीं बन सकतीं, लेकिन राधिका ने इन बातों की परवाह नहीं की। उन्होंने आलोचकों को अपने बेहतरीन काम के जरिए जवाब दिया।

यूपी पुलिस ने हाथरस में गैंगरेप की शिकार दलित लड़की की मौत के बाद उसके शव को मंगलवार रात के अंधेरे में जला दिया। इस दौरान उसके परिजनों तक को नहीं मौजूद रहने दिया गया। पुलिस की इस हरकत को लेकर बॉलीवुड सेलेब्स में काफी नाराजगी है और उन्होंने सोशल मीडिया पर गुस्सा जताया है। हालांकि कंगना रनोट ने सरकार पर भरोसा जताते हुए उसी तरह का न्याय मांगा है।

इस घटना के विरोध में किए अपने ट्वीट में जावेद अख्तर ने लिखा 'उत्तर प्रदेश पुलिस ने हाथरस की बलात्कार पीड़िता के शव की अंत्येष्टि रात में 2.30 बजे कर दी। ये काम बिना अनुमति और परिवार की गैर मौजूदगी में हुआ। जिससे कई सवाल खड़े हो गए हैं। उन्हें ये आत्मविश्वास क्यों है कि इस दुस्साहस के बाद भी वे बच जाएंगे। किसने उन्हें इस बात के लिए आश्वस्त किया है।'

कंगना को सरकार पर है पूरा भरोसा

कंगना रनोट ने यूपी सरकार पर भरोसा जताते हुए लिखा, 'मुझे योगी आदित्यनाथ जी पर अटूट भरोसा है। जिस तरह प्रियंका रेड्डी के रेपिस्ट उसी जगह पर मारे गए थे, जहां उन्होंने उसका रेप किया था और उसे जिंदा जलाया था। हम भी उसी तरह का भावुक, स्वाभाविक और आवेग वाला न्याय चाहते हैं।'

नगमा ने लिखा, 'उन्होंने परिवार पर अंत्येष्टि के लिए दबाव बनाया। योगी आदित्यनाथ ने पर्दा डालने की हर संभव कोशिश की। पुलिस से देर रात 2.45 बजे लड़की के शव को जलवा दिया। उन्होंने हमारे देश की बेटी का हिंदू रीति-रिवाजों के मुताबिक एक सम्मानीय अंतिम संस्कार भी नहीं होने दिया।'

शाहरुख खान की 20 साल की बेटी सुहाना खान ने उनके साथ हुए रंगभेद को लेकर दर्द बयां किया है। सुहाना के मुताबिक, जब वे 12 साल की थीं, तब उनकी स्किन टोन की वजह से उन्हें बदसूरत कहा गया था। उन्होंने सोशल मीडिया पर इसे लेकर लंबी पोस्ट लिखी है और कहा है कि बहुत जरूरी है कि रंगभेद के मुद्दे को फिक्स किया जाना चाहिए।

जी हां हम अलग-अलग रंगों से आते हैं। लेकिन कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता कि आप मेलानिन से खुद को दूर करने की कितनी कोशिश करते हैं। बस आप नहीं कर सकते। अपने ही लोगों से नफरत करने का यह मतलब है कि आप दर्द से असुरक्षित हैं।

मुझे खेद है, अगर सोशल मीडिया, भारतीय मैचमेकिंग और यहां तक कि आपके अपने परिवार वाले आपको कहते हैं कि अगर आपकी हाइट 5"7 नहीं है और आप फेयर नहीं हैं तो आप खूबसूरत नहीं हैं।

शॉर्ट फिल्म में दिख चुकीं सुहाना

सुहाना ने पिछले साल नवंबर में 'द ग्रे पार्ट ऑफ ब्लू' में काम किया था। अंग्रेजी में बनी इस 10 मिनट की शॉर्ट फिल्म में सुहाना की परफॉरमेंस काफी सराही गई थी और उनके बॉलीवुड डेब्यू को लेकर उत्सुकता जाग गई थी।

हालांकि, शाहरुख ने कहा था कि फिल्मों में कदम रखने से पहले सुहाना अपनी पढ़ाई पूरी करेंगी। रिपोर्ट्स की मानें सुहाना अभी लंदन में फिल्म मेकिंग का कोर्स कर रही हैं। कोर्स पूरा होने के बाद वो एक्टिंग में करियर बनाएंगी। उन्होंने फिल्म 'जीरो' में अपने पिता शाहरुख खान को असिस्ट किया था।

Hathras gangrape case: Narendra Modi calls for strict action; Yogi Adityanath sets up SIT

Lucknow: Amid outrage over the Hathras gang-rape case, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and sought strict action against the accused, the Chief Minister's office said.

Adityanath on Wednesday constituted a three-member SIT to probe the gang-rape case, a day after the death of the 19-year-old woman in a Delhi hospital and also asked for conducting the trial in a fast track court.

In a tweet, the chief minister's office said that the prime minister spoke with Adityanath over the case.

“Respected Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji has spoken on the Hathras incident and said that strict action should be taken against the culprits,” the CMO said.

The woman was brutally gang-raped in a village in Hathras district two weeks ago. She died of her grievous injuries at a Delhi''s Safdurjung hospital on Tuesday, prompting outrage, protests and calls for justice.

A senior official said a SIT has been constituted to the probe the case. The state's home secretary Bhagwan Swarup, will lead the SIT and DIG, Chandraprakash, and commandant PAC Agra, Poonam, will be its members.

The SIT has been asked to submit its report in seven days time, the official said.

BITSAT result 2020: Score card released on bitsadmission.com; window to edit course preference form open till 30 September

The result for Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT 2020) has been released by BITS Pilani at on the official website bitsadmission.com.

Candidates who took the entrance test conducted from 16 to 23 September can check their score card on the website.

“In addition to applying for and appearing in BITSAT 2020, candidates seeking admission to BITS Pilani have to also apply giving details of their Class 12 marks and preferences to different degree programmes offered,” the website mentioned. Candidates who have not appeared in entrance can also check their scores with Class 12 marks.

The edit window for admission to integrated first programmes is open for the students who have submitted the preference form already. The window will be open up to 5 pm of 30 September, after which no changes can be made under any circumstances.

To make changes, candidates will have to login to using their user ID and password.

Steps to check BITSAT score card 2020:

Step 1: Log on to the BITS admission official website - bitsadmission.com.
Step 2: Scroll down on the homepage and tap on the link that mentions BITSAT 2020 scorecard.
Step 3: You will be directed to a new page where you will have to key in your user ID and password.
Step 4: Press the Login button.
Step 5: BITSAT 2020 score card will appear on the page. Check all the details carefully before saving and taking a print out.

China's opposition to border infrastructure in Ladakh erodes goodwill created by Jaishankar-Wang Yi talks

The talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi earlier this month had raised hopes that tensions along the Line of Actual Control could ease soon. However, recent actions by Beijing have given little cause for optimism.

Earlier this week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin made several belligerent statements — from opposing infrastructure development in border areas to saying that China does not recognise the Union Territory of Ladakh.

These statements only serve to negate the slight thaw in relations between the two countries that had been achieved as a result of talks between Jaishankar and Wang Yi.

Beijing hardens stance

On Tuesday, Wenbin was quoted by PTI as saying, "China has not recognised the Union Territory of Ladakh illegally set up by the Indian side.”

He said this in response to a question by a journalist on India prioritising construction of high altitude road network on its border with China in the Ladakh region.

"We are opposed to conducting infrastructure development for military purposes in the border area. Based on the two sides' consensus, no side should engage in the border areas in any activities that might complicate the situation to avoid undermining efforts by the two sides to ease the situation,” Wang said.

China had first expressed its opposition to India’s move to create a separate Union Territory of Ladakh just a day after the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is significant to note that the then external affairs ministry spokesperson had said that India does not comment on the internal affairs of other countries and similarly expects other countries to do likewise.

On Tuesday, Wang also responded to another question on reports that China has carried out massive development of border infrastructure. He said reports released by “some institutions” stating that China has built new military bases on its side are “completely false”.

"China consistently and strictly abides by the agreements signed with the Indian side. We are committed to maintaining peace and stability along the border with India and at the same time, we firmly safeguard our sovereignty, territorial integrity and security”, he added.

China's belligerent statements on Tuesday were not limited only to the ongoing border standoff. The spokesperson also criticised the forthcoming meeting of the foreign ministers of India, Australia, Japan and the US in Tokyo, saying it is opposed to the formation of "exclusive clique" harming third party interests.

"Multilateral and plurilateral cooperation should be open, inclusive and transparent. No one should seek an exclusive clique," Wang said.

"Efforts should be made to enhance regional countries' mutual understanding and trust, instead of targeting a third party or harming third party’s interests," he said.

Talks during SCO summit

China's wide-ranging statements on Tuesday do very little to encourage hopes of the border standoff winding down in the near future. This is despite the joint statement between Jaishankar and Wang Yi noting that the "the current situation in the border areas is not in the interest of either side."

During the meet, India and China had broadly agreed on a five-point policy aimed at dialing down tensions. In particular, the agreement stated, "The two Ministers agreed that both sides shall abide by all the existing agreements and protocol on China-India boundary affairs, maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas and avoid any action that could escalate matters."

An article in The Wire quoted defence sources as saying that a major takeaway was that China gave a written committment which can be referred to in future negotiations. The sources, however, noted that most of the principles that were laid down were open-ended, which would make it difficult to pin China down on an exact wording.

Indeed, with India and China having different perceptions of the LAC, statements on Ladakh such as the one quoted above are only to be expected. China has also objected to the construction of border multiple times in the past, and these objections are reported to have been among the reasons for the clashes in the Galwan Valley. However, such statements coming so soon after the joint statement between Jaishankar and Wang Yi is a matter of concern.

Indeed, Beijing's attempts to oppose border infrastructure have met with a prompt rebuttal from the Indian side, which categorically rejected China's "so-called unilaterally defined" Line of Actual Control(LAC) of 1959.

Outlook for future

Despite China's statements on Tuesday, there have been some tangible progress through talks between the two countries. On 21 September, after marathon 14-hour talks at the Corps Commander level, both sides released a joint statement saying the two countries have decided to stop sending more troops to the frontline in eastern Ladakh.

Meanwhile, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria said on Tuesday that the present security scenario along our northern frontiers is at an uneasy "no war no peace" status.

With diplomatic efforts to resolve the LAC continuing, one hopes that the meet between Jaishankar and Wang Yi does not turn out to be an isolated instance of amiability.

रेप के आरोपों को अनुराग कश्यप ने अपनी वकील के जरिए एक स्टेटमेंट जारी कर पूरी तरह से खारिज किया है और बेबुनियाद बताया है।

एक दिन पहले राज्यपाल से एक्ट्रेस ने की थी मुलाकात

इससे पहले एक्ट्रेस ने राज्यपाल भगत सिंह कोश्यारी से मुलाकात कर अनुराग कश्यप से अपनी जान का खतरा बताया था। राजभवन से बाहर आकर एक्ट्रेस ने कहा था,'रेप का आरोपी सड़क पर खुलेआम घूम रहा है, इसलिए उन्हें सुरक्षा प्रदान की जाए।' राजभवन में एक्ट्रेस के साथ आरपीआई(अ) के प्रमुख रामदास आठवले और उनके पार्टी के कुछ कार्यकर्ता भी मौजूद थे। एक्ट्रेस ने कहा है कि अगर कश्यप को जल्द गिरफ्तार नहीं किया जाता तो वे भूख हड़ताल पर बैठ जाएंगी।

22 सितंबर को कश्यप पर दर्ज हुआ रेप का केस

22 सितंबर को दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों में काम कर चुकी एक्ट्रेस ने फिल्म डायरेक्टर-प्रोड्यूसर अनुराग कश्यप के खिलाफ मुंबई के विक्रोली पुलिस स्टेशन में रेप का मामला दर्ज करवाया है। एक्ट्रेस का आरोप है कि कश्यप ने 2013 में वर्सोवा में यारी रोड की एक लोकेशन पर रेप किया था। अनुराग के खिलाफ दुष्कर्म, गलत बर्ताव, गलत इरादे से रोकने और महिला का अपमान करने की धाराओं के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया है।

एनसीबी के डिप्टी डायरेक्टर केपीएस मल्होत्रा बोला- मीडिया में झूठी खबर चल रही, हम खंडन जारी कर रहे हैं

नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो (NCB) के डिप्टी डायरेक्टर केपीएस मल्होत्रा ने उन खबरों खंडन किया है, जिनमें एजेंसी की ओर से दीपिका पादुकोण, सारा अली खान, श्रद्धा कपूर और दीपिका की मैनेजर करिश्मा प्रकाश को क्लीन चिट देने की बात की जा रही है। दैनिक भास्कर से बातचीत में मल्होत्रा ने कहा, "नहीं यह गलत खबर है और हम इसका खंडन जारी कर रहे हैं।"

क्या है रिपोर्ट्स का दावा

एक अंग्रेजी न्यूज वेबसाइट ने एनसीबी के एक अधिकारी (नाम नहीं दिया है) के हवाले से लिखा है कि एनसीबी ने दीपिका और करिश्मा के बयानों के आधार पर उन्हें क्लीन चिट दे दी है।

कथित तौर पर शनिवार को दीपिका और करिश्मा ने एनसीबी को बताया कि 2017 में अपनी वॉट्सऐप चैट में उन्होंने माल, वीड, हैश और डूब का इस्तेमाल अलग-अलग तरह की सिगरेट के लिए किया था।

कुछ दिनों पहले दीपिका और करिश्मा के बीच तीन आल पहले हुई वॉट्सऐप चैट मीडिया में वायरल हुई थी। इसमें दीपिका ने करिश्मा से पूछा था, 'माल है क्या?' इतना ही नहीं, उन्होंने यह भी कहा था किवे वीड नहीं, हैश चाहती हैं।

दोनों लो क्वालिटी की सिगरेट को माल, स्लिम और बेहतर क्वालिटी की सिगरेट को सिगरेट को हैश और वीड कहती थीं। वहीं, मोटी सिगरेट को उन्होंने डूब कोड वर्ड दिया था।

यह भी दावा किया जा रहा है कि दोनों से अलग-अलग कमरे में बैठाकर एक जैसे सवाल पूछे गए और दोनों ने ही कोड वर्ड्स वाली बात का जिक्र किया। जांच एजेंसी को उनके जवाब संतोषजनक लगे थे।

श्रद्धा-सारा को लेकर यह दावा

क्वान कंपनी से ताल्लुक रखने वाली टैलेंट मैनेजर जया साहा और श्रद्धा कपूर के बीच की वॉट्सऐप चैट भी सामने आई थी। इसमें श्रद्धा ने जया से CBD ऑयल की मांग की थी। एनसीबी के एक अधिकारी के हवाले से दावा किया जा रहा है कि श्रद्धा ने CBD ऑयल मंगवाने की बात स्वीकार की। लेकिन उनके मुताबिक, यह सिर्फ एक्सटर्नल यूज के लिए था। इसी तरह सारा अली खान ने भी एनसीबी की पूछताछ में ड्रग्स लेने की बात से इनकार किया है।

तीनों एक्ट्रेस का ड्रग पैडलर से संपर्क नहीं: रिपोर्ट

रिपोर्ट में एनसीबी के अधिकारी के हवाले से यह भी लिखा है, "फिलहाल हम तकनीकी सबूतों पर भरोसा कर रहे हैं। किसी तरह की जब्ती नहीं हुई है। इन एक्ट्रेसेस की किसी भी ड्रग पैडलर से कोई लिंक नहीं मिली है। उनके बयान कोर्ट के सामने पेश किए जाएंगे।"

ICMR's second nationwide serosurvey shows big jump in COVID-19 exposure, better testing rates in August vs May

Over 7 percent of India's adult population seems to have been exposed to the coronavirus before the end of August, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has found in its second nationwide sero survey for antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. The survey was done between 17 August and 22 September, and its results were shared Tuesday evening by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday afternoon. This is a fair jump from the 0.73 percent exposure recorded in the first survey – conducted in the same 700 villages and urban wards as the second serosurvey.

Blood samples from 29,082 people were tested to look for IgG antibodies, which indicates exposure to the novel coronavirus at the population level. The sero survey is part of a larger effort to understand how widespread the prevalence of COVID-19 is in the Indian population.

Key findings from the 2nd sero survey

–A considerable section of the Indian population has not yet been exposed to the virus and remains at varying degree of COVID-19 infection risk, depending on where they live

–One in 15 people (10 years of age or older) is likely to have been exposed to the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) by end of August.

–The risk of infection was twice as high in slums (15.6 percent seroprevalence) as non-slum areas (8.2 percent seroprevalence) in urban centres, and four times higher than in rural areas (4.4 percent seroprevalence).

[This is dramatically different from what the first survey found: a much higher seropositivity in rural areas (69.4 percent) compared to urban slums (15.9 percent) or non-slums (14.6 percent). That said, the findings from the first survey are somewhat compromised, since only a quarter (25.9 percent) of the clusters surveyed were located in urban areas.]

–There was lower infection-to-case ratio in August compare to May – a reflection of a substantial increase in testing and detection across the country, the ministry said.

–For every confirmed COVID-19 case in August there were 26 to 32 infections that went undetected. In May, the same figure was 81-130 undetected for every case diagnosed – a success that the government claims is due to better contact tracing and tracking for COVID-19.

States with the highest seroprevalence

Mumbai

Mumbai showed the highest seroprevalence of any city in India, with 57.8 percent of samples (from slums) positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. This figure dropped to 17.4 percent for samples from non-slum areas.

Delhi

Delhi recorded a 29.1 percent seroprevalence in the second round of sampling that was conducted between 1-7 August. This was higher than the 23.1 percent recorded in the first round conducted between 27 June and 10 July.

Puducherry

Puducherry was next with a seroprevalence of 22.7 percent in the second sero survey (10-16 September). The Union Territory has recorded some 27,000 confirmed cases, 515 are deaths and 5,014 active cases till date. Puducherry's seroprevalence has seen a rapid rise from only 4.9 percent in the first round of survey (11-16 August).

Chennai, Ahmedabad, Indore

Chennai recorded a seroprevalence of 21.5 percent and Ahmedabad 17.6 percent, with Indore in Madhya Pradesh registering 7.8 percent. Each of these figures correspond to two different sero-surveys that were conducted independently of each other.

Takeaways

The ministry warned that with the holiday season around the corner and the many festivals that will be celebrated, mass gatherings need to be strictly avoided. State governments need to come up with "inventive containment strategies" for this, said the central government.

The sero survey also highlighted the need for the public to practise 'non-pharmacological interventions' – social distancing, correct cough etiquette, use of face masks and hand sanitizers – to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Elderly people, individuals with co-morbidities, children and pregnant women remain susceptible to infection and still need to take extra precautions wherever possible, the government stressed.

India has a cumulative tally of 61.45 lakh confirmed COVID-19 cases and 9.4 lakh active cases as of 30 September. 70,589 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, as per government data released this morning, and 776 people died.

Sushant Singh Rajput death: AIIMS says its report on the 'same page' as CBI; forensic chief refuses to divulge details

The AIIMS' forensic chief Dr Sudhir Gupta said on Tuesday the board of doctors has given a conclusive medico-legal opinion in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput to the CBI and that they were on the "same page" with the probe agency in the matter.

A source said the doctors' panel did not find any trace of poison in the actor's viscera, but this information could not be verified further.

On his part, Dr Gupta refused to divulge any details, stating the case is sub judice.

"The medical board of AIIMS has expressed very clearly and conclusively medico-legal final opinion in this case to the CBI. The AIIMS and CBI are in agreement and on the same page in the matter," AIIMS' forensic chief said.

He added, "We don't confirm any speculation running in the media and request all media to refrain from referring to AIIMS' name in any news content."

These remarks by Dr Gupta come amid conflicting media reports about the contents of the medico-legal opinion. While some news reports claimed that the expert panel has said there is no proof of poisoning, some others said it has not ruled out murder or homicide.

The CBI had on Monday said it has not reached any conclusion in the death of Sushant Singh Rajput and all aspects are under investigation.

"The Central Bureau of Investigation is conducting a professional investigation related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput in which all aspects are being looked into and no aspect has been ruled out as of date," a CBI spokesperson said in a statement.

Rajput, 34, who made his silver screen debut in the critically acclaimed Kai Po Che seven years ago, was found dead in his apartment in suburban Bandra in Mumbai on 14 June.

The CBI had taken over the probe from Bihar Police into the alleged abetment to suicide case filed by the actor's father KK Singh in Patna against Rajput's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family.

KK Singh, in his complaint to the Bihar Police, had alleged that Chakraborty along with her family members had misappropriated Rajput's wealth. The allegation was denied by Chakraborty in TV interviews.

Last week, KK Singh's lawyer Vikas Singh had expressed "helplessness" over the "slow pace" of the CBI probe into Rajput's death.

"The pace of the CBI probe into Sushant Singh Rajput's death has suddenly slowed down and all attention is being diverted to drugs-related issues with the NCB conducting fashion parade of Bollywood stars," the late actor's family lawyer Vikas Singh had alleged on 25 September.

In 2001, a trial court had dropped proceedings against 21 of the accused. The verdict was upheld by the High Court. However, on 19 April, 2017, the Supreme Court had ordered restoration of the conspiracy charges and ordered daily hearing in the case, with trial to be concluded in two years.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday will deliver judgment in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case, in which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veterans Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi are among the accused.

The Mughal-era mosque was demolished almost 28 years ago on 6 December 1992, when the VHP-BJP-RSS combine led a Ram Janmabhoomi movement across several parts of the country and the 16th century structure was razed by a mob in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya town.

Some of the key accused, including former deputy prime minister LK Advani, former Union minister MM Joshi, former Union minister Uma Bharti and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, are likely to attend the proceedings through video conference because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Many of the accused are former or present Members of Parliament or members of State Legislatures.

Singh was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh when the mosque was demolished. He was put on trial in September 2019 after his tenure as governor (of Rajasthan) came to an end.

He was the only one among the accused to submit documentary evidence in his defence. None of the accused produced a witness in their defence. On the other hand, 351 prosecution witnesses, many of them journalists, were examined during the trial, Hindu reported.

"At present I am not in a position to say who will be present in court for the final judgment. I have informed all my clients about the judgment date (30 September). Who will be present in court will only be clear on the judgment day," said KK Mishra, who is representing 25 out of the 32 accused persons.

All 32 accused are facing charges under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal conspiracy, rioting , promoting enmity between different groups and unlawful assembly. Shiv Sena leader Satish Pradhan and Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust chief Mahant Nritya Gopal Das are likely not to be present in court. Bharti and Singh have tested positive for COVID-19 and are hospitalised.

With the Supreme Court setting 31 August as the deadline and later extending it by a month for the CBI court to give its verdict, the trial court started day-to-day hearing to complete the task in time.

The central agency produced 351 witnesses and 600 documents as evidence before the court. Charges were framed against 48 people, but 17 have died during the course of the trial.

The trial under the serious criminal conspiracy charges commenced against them after having been dropped by the trial court in 2001. The verdict was upheld by the Allahabad High Court in 2010, but the apex court ordered restoration of the conspiracy charge against them on 19 April, 2017.

The top court ordered daily hearing in the high profile case and directed the special judge to conclude it in two years.

The charge of conspiracy is in addition to the existing charges against them for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion for which they are already facing trial.

The accused are also facing charges of having made assertions "prejudicial to national integration and injuring or defiling a place of worship".

The other charges against them include indulging in "deliberate and malicious" acts intended to outrage religious feelings, uttering statements leading to public mischief, rioting and unlawful assembly.

The CBI argued that the accused conspired and instigated 'kar sevaks' to demolish the 16th century mosque. But the accused pleaded innocence maintaining that there is no evidence to prove their guilt and claimed they were implicated by the then Congress government at the Centre as a political vendetta.

The Babri Masjid was demolished in December 1992 by "kar sevaks" who claimed the mosque in Ayodhya was built on the site of an ancient Ram temple.

In a significant judgment last year, the Supreme Court allotted the disputed site in Ayodhya for construction of a Ram temple, while calling the demolition of the mosque a violation of the rule of law. An alternative five-acre site was marked in the city for building a mosque.

A ceremony to mark the beginning of the construction was held on 5 August and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Uttar Pradesh Police forcibly took Hathras gangrape victim’s remains for cremation, claims family

Hathras: The family of the 19-year-old Dalit woman, who died in a Delhi hospital a fortnight after she was gangraped, alleged on Wednesday that the police were forcibly trying to get her body cremated in the middle of the night.

Local police officers, however, told PTI that the cremation was being carried out “as per the wishes of the family”.

The woman was raped in a village in Hathras by four men on 14 September. After her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Delhi's Safdarjung hospital where she breathed her last on Tuesday.

As news of her death spread, protests broke out in Delhi as well as in Hathras with all sections of society, including politicians, sports and film actors and activists, expressing their anguish and demanding justice for her.

The family left from Safdarjung hospital in Delhi on Tuesday night amid heavy police deployment. The body was taken by the Uttar Pradesh Police, which reached Hathras earlier than the family members, claimed a kin of the victim.

“The police have forcibly taken the body, and my father along with them for cremation. When my father reached Hathras, he was immediately taken (to the crematorium) by the police,” a brother of the deceased woman told PTI over the phone at 1 am on Wednesday.

Another relative said that the woman's father was accompanied by 30 to 40 people, mostly relatives, and others from their neighbourhood had gone to the crematorium near Bool Garhi village, under Chandpa police station limits, in the district in western Uttar Pradesh.

Senior police and administration officials were also present at the crematorium in the middle of the night, an official said.

“Humein ye samajh nahi aa raha kyun, kya chahiye... kaisi rajneeti kar rahe hain ye log, saare ulte seedhe bayaan de rahe hain ke ladki ka rape nahi hua hai... pata nahi kya chahiye inko (We are unable to understand, what they want... what kind of politics is this, they are giving random statements like the woman has not been raped. We don't know what they want),” said a relative who was home with the grieving family.

“Ye sab is maamle ko thanda karne ke liye bol rahe hain... (They are doing all this to hush up the case),” he alleged.

When contacted, Hathras Superintendent of Police Vikrant Vir told PTI in a text message: “All procedures as per wish of family (sic).”

नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो (एनसीबी) ने अभिनेता सुशांत सिंह राजपूत की मौत से जुड़े ड्रग्स मामले में गिरफ्तार अभिनेत्री रिया चक्रवर्ती और उनके भाई शौविक चक्रवर्ती की बॉम्बे हाई कोर्ट में दायर जमानत याचिकाओं का विरोध किया है। एनसीबी ने कहा कि दोनों ने ड्रग्स की खरीद-फरोख्त को बढ़ावा दिया और वित्तीय मदद पहुंचाई। एजेंसी ने गंभीर आरोप लगाते हुए कहा रिया चक्रवर्ती कोई मासूम नहीं बल्कि बेहद शातिर हैं। वह सुशांत सिंह राजपूत को ड्रग्स के जाल में उलझाने के लिए ही उसके पास गई थी।

मंगलवार को बॉम्बे हाईकोर्ट में एक्ट्रेस रिया चक्रवर्ती की ओर से दायर जमानत याचिका पर 7 घंटे तक सुनवाई हुई। अदालत में सभी पक्षों का बयान रिकॉर्ड कर फैसाला सुरक्षित रख लिया गया है।

जांच एजेंसी ने अदालत को बताया कि रिया चक्रवर्ती अपने होशो-हवास में और पूरी प्लानिंग से ड्रग्स का धंधा करती थी। वह एक ड्रग सिंडिकेट की एक्टिव मेंबर थीं, जिसमें हाई सोसायटी के कई जाने-माने लोग और ड्रग सप्लायर्स शामिल रहे हैं। एनसीबी ने कहा है कि ड्रग का सेवन करने के मामले में रिया चक्रवर्ती दिवंगत अभिनेता सुशांत सिंह राजपूत को बढ़ावा देने की आरोपी हैं। रिया ने ही सुशांत को ड्रग्स की लत लगाई थी।

सुशांत के साथ रहकर दिया गया उसे धोखा

नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो के अधिकारियों के मुताबिक 'एक्टर सुशांत सिंह राजपूत की मौत के सम्पूर्ण परिदृश्य को देखते हुए यह सामने आता है कि रिया चक्रवर्ती इस बात से अवगत थीं कि सुशांत सिंह राजपूत ड्रग का सेवन करते थे और इस दौरान न केवल उन्हें ऐसा करने का बढ़ावा दिया गया बल्कि उनसे पूरी बात भी छिपाई गई।'

सुशांत के खिलाफ आपराधिक साजिश

एनसीबी ने रिया चक्रवर्ती को शातिर अपराधी मानते हुए उसकी जमानत याचिका का विरोध किया और कहा कि उनके खिलाफ ऐसे कई सबूत मिले हैं, जिनसे पता चलता है कि वह ड्रग ट्रैफिकिंग में शामिल रही हैं. एनसीबी ने यह स्पष्ट कर दिया है कि एक आपराधिक साजिश के तहत रिया ने ड्रग्स के लेन-देन के लिए अन्य अभियुक्तों का समर्थन किया, उन्हें ऐसा करने के लिए बढ़ावा दिया और पैसे से भी उनकी मदद कीं.

रिया ने भी अदालत में किया है स्वीकार

एनसीबी के जोनल निदेशक समीर वानखेड़े द्वारा बॉम्बे हाईकोर्ट में दायर एक हलफनामे में रिया ने बयान दिया है कि उन्होंने सैमुएल मिरांडा और दीपेश सावंत को उन ड्रग्स के पैसे चुकाए हैं, जिन्हें बाद में सुशांत को सेवन के लिए दिया गया। एनसीबी ने कहा कि यह साफ है कि जिन ड्रग्स के लिए पैसे चुकाए गए थे, वे निजी उपयोग के लिए नहीं थे बल्कि ऐसा किसी और को इनकी आपूर्ति कराए जाने के लिए किया गया और यह एनडीपीएस 1985 की धारा 27ए के तहत आता है।

रिया छूटी तो सबूत नष्ट होंगे

एनसीबी ने एक हलफनामे में कहा है कि जांच एक महत्वपूर्ण चरण में है और अगर इस वक्त रिया को जमानत मिल जाती है, तो इससे छानबीन बाधित होगी. एनसीबी ने कहा कि रिया मादक पदार्थो की तस्करी में शामिल रही है, यह साबित करने के लिए कई सबूत हैं. वह ड्रग पहुंचाने के काम में न सिर्फ मदद देती थीं बल्कि क्रेडिट कार्ड, नकद और ऐसे ही कई माध्यमों से इनका भुगतान भी करती थीं।

एजेंसी ने आगे कहा कि रिया ने अपने घर पर ड्रग्स को रखने और सुशांत को सेवन करने की भी अनुमति दी। एनसीबी ने कहा कि यह मामला अब एनडीपीएस (नारकोटिक ड्रग्स एंड साइकोट्रॉपिक सब्स्टांसेस एक्ट) के तहत भी आता है और इसलिए इस पर अब इनका भी अधिकार है।

GATE 2021: Registration process ends today, candidates can apply at gate.iitb.ac.in

GATE 2021 | The last date to register online for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2021 without late fees is today, 30 September. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, which will be conducting the exam, has released the GATE application form 2021 and started the registration at their official website - gate.iitb.ac.in.

As per a report by Careers 360, the last date of registration for GATE 2021 with a late fee of Rs 500 is 7 October.

After the registration is completed, authorities will open an application correction window for the candidates.

According to a report by NDTV, applicants will be required to register through GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).

The process for application include GATE registration, filling up of the form, uploading documents and making payment of application fees.

GATE 2021 will be conducted between 5 and 14 February. The exam will be held in two shifts - first shift will be from 9 am to noon, while the second will be from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The result of GATE 2021 will be declared on the official website on 22 March 2021.

Applicants will have to pay a fee of Rs 1,500 per paper which will be increased to Rs 2,000 from 1 to 7 October. Females and reserved category candidates will have to pay Rs 750. For applying late, they will have to pay Rs 1,250.

GATE 2021 will be a computer-based test (CBT) and candidates will get three hours to answer the paper. The scores of GATE 2020 will be valid for three years from the date of announcement of the results.

The GATE 2021 will have objective type questions. There are likely to be multiple choice questions (MCQs), multiple select questions (MSQs), numerical answer type (NAT) questions.

Mumbai's fisherfolk, already facing low income, fear losing boat parking space to Coastal Road Project

The Brihanmumbai  Municipal Corporation's “ambitious” Coastal Road project has affected the livelihood of the small and artisanal fisherfolk in Mumbai’s Worli area with fishers claiming not just an exponential fall in catch, but also fishing equipment worth lakhs being damaged since reclamation work began in the area in 2018.

The community now fears further loss of livelihood with the proposed reclamation of the Lotus Jetty near the Haji Ali Mosque in Worli as part of the Coastal Road project, damaging not just the delicate ecosystem of Worli's shoreline, but also taking away the boat parking space available to them in the area.

Locals say the reclamation work that has been undertaken in the last two years has already destroyed the inter-tidal pools that are rich in marine life. The noise from the heavy machinery too has driven the fish away from the area, they add.

“They want a parking space for their coastal road, but what about our parking space? Does our profession have no value?" asks Sanjay Baikar, secretary of Vanchit Machhimar Haji Ali Sahkari Sangathana Maryadit, an association of the fisherfolk living between Worli and Walkeshwar.

"This project has caused massive damage to our livelihood and is a threat to our way of life," adds Bhaikar.

Local fishers said that on 30 August, supervisors affiliated to the civic body arrived at the Lotus Jetty and asked them to remove their boats, as reclamation was set to begin.

The locals claimed that the authorities hadn’t served any prior notice, and alleged that the verbal instruction was followed by “threats and abuses”.

Sixty-year-old Jais Khambal, a member of the association, says that the Lotus Jetty is the only space left for fishers in the area to dock their boats.

Khambal informs that he started docking his boat at the Lotus Jetty after reclamation work began near his residence in Priyadarshini Park.

"We will have no way to earn a livelihood if this jetty gets reclaimed as well,” he says.

The United Nations defines ‘small and artisanal’ fishing as, “…traditional fisheries involving fishing households (as opposed to commercial companies), using relatively small amount of capital and energy, relatively small fishing vessels (if any), making short fishing trips, close to shore, and mainly for local consumption.”

Many of the fishers using the jetty in Worli are third-generation fishers to take up the profession while others have been fishing for over four decades now.

For them, fishing is the primary source of livelihood, and most of those who venture out on the sea are sole earners in their families.

Waiting for the chief minister's reply

Members of the fisher community are angry as well feeling intimidated by the Coastal Road project.

They have rallied against the coastal road project under the Vanchit Machhimar Haji Ali Sahkari Sangathana Maryadit and have been demanding from the government to stop the Coastal Road project as it's impeding their source of income.

The association, which represents over 600 people, including the fishers’ families, has written to Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray several times, seeking an audience to discuss their grievances regarding the project.

However, they say that they are yet to receive a reply from the chief minister.

Fishing equipment worth over Rs 20 lakh damaged, say locals

The ongoing reclamation work is in the immediate vicinity of the Lotus Jetty, and the fisherfolk are incurring losses worth lakhs of rupees as their engine-powered boats, dinghies, and nets are damaged in the process.

In June, 25-year-old Salman Sayyed lost an engine-powered boat worth more than a lakh due to reclamation work at the jetty. With 10 dependents in his family, he and his younger brother are the sole earners.

“They (BMC field officers) gave me an hour’s notice to remove my boat from the jetty. I had agreed to, but they buried the boat under rocks despite that,” he alleged.

Now Sayyed is left with just a dinghy.

Locals say that while an engine-powered boat can venture at least 15 kilometres into the sea, the capacity of a dinghy is drastically lower. At best, it can cover a kilometre.

Fifty-five-year-old Palaniswami also recounts a similar experience from two weeks ago.

“They broke my engine boat, with only a day’s notice to remove it from the jetty. It seems like they destroy the boats in the night, when no one is around,” he alleges.

Another resident of the area, Alauddin Khan, gives an overall figure of the financial losses the community has seen so far.

“At least seven-eight such boats have been broken since 2018, and countless nets have been damaged. Overall, the fishers in the area have borne losses worth Rs 20-25 lakh,” says Khan.

BMC denies asking fishers to clear Lotus Jetty

Meanwhile, the BMC has denied any knowledge of having issued any order instructing the fishers to clear the Lotus Jetty.

Niranjan Khanolkar, chief engineer in the BMC’s Coastal Road Department, said, “Our office is not aware of any such action. Sometimes a contractor or a supervisor might give such instructions for technical reasons or on a temporary basis.”

The proposed 30-kilometre-long coastal road aims to decongest existing arterial roads in Mumbai by connecting south Mumbai to the northern suburb of Kandivali.

The first phase of the plan includes bridges on stilts, an underwater tunnel, and road segments between Marine Drive and Worli. The 9.9-kilometre road will ultimately join the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

While the government is justifying its plan to reclaim at least 100 acres of land as a way to develop the city’s infrastructure, the adverse effects of the project on the local fishing community’s livelihood are concrete and manifold.

Locals face loss in income

Many fishers said they are facing a severe shortage in their catch due to the disturbance caused to the coastal marine ecosystem.

On 2 September, Kamlesh Soni set out with three other boat-mates at 5.45 am. In over four hours, Soni said they had managed to catch fish worth only Rs 100-250 in total, which he split with the others.

“In a week, I earn Rs 2,000 while the diesel costs Rs 3,000. Even though we go fishing every day, how will we sustain ourselves with such little produce? Earlier, we could yield a good catch with one or two nets, but now we need 10 nets to catch the same amount of fish,” he says.

Locals say that there has been a significant reduction in their family’s monthly income due to the effects of the reclamation work. A lot of them are also incurring debts of over a lakh.

“Since 2018, our incomes have been reducing. We used to earn between Rs 15,000-30,000 in a month, but now we are barely earning between Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000,” Baikar says.

“Fishbait and other small creatures are our last resort to make ends meet,” he adds.

आगे उन्होंने कहा, 'दूसरी चीज यह रही कि इस फिल्‍म में सुशांत के साथ केमिस्‍ट्री पहले से ही बनी हुई थी। उसकी वजह पुरानी थी। इससे पहले हम दोनों फिल्म ‘शुद्ध देसी रोमांस’ में भी साथ काम कर चुके थे। वहां शूट के दौरान सुशांत ने बहुत हिचकिचाते हुए सिगरेट मांगी थी। उसके बाद हमारी मुलाकात धोनी के सेट पर हुई।'

'मैं सेट पर जल्‍दी पहुंच गया था। सुशांत बाद में अपनी गाड़ी से उतरे। उनके हाथों में सिगरेट थी। वे स्‍पॉट पर सिगरेट नचाते हुए मेरे पास आए और बोले सर आप की एक सिगरेट उधार है। उसके बाद हम कभी उनकी तो कभी वह हमारी सिगरेट पिया करते थे।'

'फिर रांची में एक बड़ा उम्‍दा होटल था। वहां कबाब बड़ा अच्‍छा मिलता था। वहां सुशांत कबाब खिलाने ले गए थे। अनुपम खेर जी भी उस स्‍पॉट पर हमें ले जाते थे। फिर नाश्‍ते वगैरह पर हमारी मुलाकातें हुआ करती थीं। कुल मिलाकर सुशांत खाने खिलाने के बड़े शौकीन थे।'

आगे राजेश ने कहा, 'सुशांत सिंगल टेक में सीन ओके नहीं करते थे। कई बार डायरेक्‍टर के साथ ओके होने के बावजूद वो कहते रहते कि एक बार और करते हैं। शूट के ब्रेक में फिल्‍मों से ज्‍यादा म्‍यूजिक पर ज्‍यादा बातचीत होती थी। संगीत का उन्‍हें बड़ा शौक था। उन्‍हें मेरी ‘नो वन किल्‍ड जेसिका’ और ‘लव शव ते चिकन खुराना’ पसंद आई थी।'

'सेट पर हम लोग सिगरेट के कश लगाते थे, मगर हां बाकी कभी लगा नहीं कि वो एब्नॉर्मल थे या डिप्रेशन में थे या उन्‍हें बाकी नशे की आदत थी। बिल्‍कुल नहीं। मेरा इससे भी बड़ा ऐतराज है कि लोग किसी की व्‍यक्तिगत आदतों को उसके प्रोफेशन से क्‍यों जोड़ते हैं।'

'बहरहाल, इस फिल्‍म पर सबने मेहनत की थी। सुशांत का समर्पण भी मिसाल के लायक था। धोनी की वॉक, उनकी आदतों को जिस खूबी से उन्‍होंने आत्‍मसात किया था, वो अपने आप में बहुत बड़ी बात थी। उन्‍होंने कई हजार बार धोनी के वीडियोज देखें, सैकड़ों मुलाकातें कीं, तब उनकी तरह फिल्‍म में प्रेजेंट हो सके। समझा जा सकता है कि वो कैरेक्‍टर को लेकर कितने डेडिकेटेड थे।'

फिल्म में सुशांत के दोस्त के रूप में नजर आए क्रांति ने बताया, 'फिल्‍म और सुशांत को लेकर ढेर सारे किस्‍से हैं। फिल्‍म में एक सीन है जब धोनी के अवतार में हम लोग सुशांत को कोलकाता एयरपोर्ट छोड़ने जाते हैं। रांची के आगे एक लोकेशन थी, जहां दिल के शेप वाले स्‍पॉट पर हम सब रूके। गाड़ी से उतरे और काफी बातें कीं। संघर्षों से लेकर अध्‍यात्‍म आदि को लेकर बातें होती थीं।'

'मुंबई में हम एक और सीक्‍वेंस शूट कर रहे थे। वहां सुशांत ने अपने सपनों के बारे में सबको बताया था। उस वक्‍त वो ‘चंदामामा’ करने वाले थे। इन दो वाकयों से समझा जा सकता है कि वो किस तरह के इंसान थे। हम दोनों एक-दूसरे को भइबा से संबोधित करते थे।

फिल्‍म के लिए हेलीकॉप्‍टर शॉट पर तो भइबा काफी दिनों से प्रैक्टिस कर रहे थे। सच कहूं तो उन्‍होंने मुझे भी उस शॉट की बारीकियां बताईं। वो सीक्‍वेंस फिल्‍माने के बाद सेट पर बड़ा बेहतरीन माहौल रहा। उनके घर भी आना जाना होता था। रिलीज के बाद मैं बिहार अपने घर आया था। वहां से मुंबई लौटा तो ठेकुआ, सिंघाड़ा लेकर आया था। हमने तीन चार घंटे साथ बिताए थे। पटना की ढेर सारी बातें याद कीं। फिर साल 2016 के बाद उनसे मुलाकात नहीं हो पाई। मैसेज पर बातें हो पाती थीं।

शूट के दौरान तो वो कभी डिप्रेशन में नहीं लगे। बहुत सारे अंदाजे लगाए जा रहे हैं, मैं भी लगाऊं तो वह सही नहीं होगा। सेट पर बड़े जॉली रहते थे। मेरी वेब सीरिज आई थी 'रक्‍तांचल'। उस वक्‍त उनको मैसेज किया था, मगर उनका नंबर बदलता रहा होगा, तो शायद उन तक पहुंच नहीं पाया। लिहाजा उनकी तरफ से कोई रिप्‍लाई नहीं आया।'

ड्रग्स मामले में बीते शनिवार नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो ने दीपिका पादुकोण, सारा अली खान और श्रद्धा कपूर से पूछताछ से की थी। इस दौरान इन एक्ट्रेसेस के मोबाइल फोन भी जब्त किए गए थे। लेकिन एनसीबी पेपर्स पर सारा और श्रद्धा के सिग्नेचर लेना भूल गई थी। बाद में एजेंसी ने दोनों एक्ट्रेसेस के घर जाकर साइन लिए। हालांकि, इस दौरान सारा घर में नहीं मिलीं। इसलिए एनसीबी ने उनके एक टीम मेंबर के साइन लिए।

सभी एक्ट्रेसेस को दोबारा समन भेजा जाएगा

रिपोर्ट्स की मानें तो जांच एजेंसी ने दावा किया है कि दीपिका पादुकोण, सारा अली खान, श्रद्धा कपूर और रकुल प्रीत सिंह ने एक जैसे बयान दिए हैं। इसलिए चारों एक्ट्रेसेस को दोबारा समन भेजा जाएगा और पूछताछ के लिए बुलाया जाएगा।

चारों एक्ट्रेस के लेन-देन की जांच भी होगी

रिपोर्ट्स की मानें तो नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो दीपिका पादुकोण, सारा अली खान, श्रद्धा कपूर और रकुल प्रीत सिंह के बैंक खातों से हुए लेन-देन की जांच करेगा। इससे यह जानने की कोशिश की जा रही है कि इन्होंने ड्रग्स खरीदने के लिए कोई ट्रांजैक्शन किया या नहीं। एक्ट्रेसेस के पिछले 3 साल में क्रेडिट कार्ड्स से किए गए पेमेंट्स की जांच की गई है।

ड्रग्स चैट की बात कबूल चुकीं एक्ट्रेसेस

एनसीबी से शनिवार को करीब साढ़े पांच घंटे की पूछताछ में दीपिका पादुकोण ने अपनी मैनेजर करिश्मा प्रकाश के साथ हुई ड्रग्स चैट की बात कबूल कर ली थी। हालांकि, खुद ड्रग्स लेने की बात से इनकार किया था।

इसी तरह सारा और श्रद्धा ने लगभग 6 घंटे की पूछताछ में कहा कि उन्होंने फिल्म के सेट पर सुशांत को ड्रग्स लेते देखा था। हालांकि, तीनों ही एक्ट्रेस ने खुद ड्रग्स लेने की बात से इनकार किया था।

इससे पहले शुक्रवार को रकुल प्रीत सिंह से पूछताछ की गई थी। उन्होंने रिया के साथ हुई ड्रग्स चैट की बात मान ली थी। लेकिन उनका कहना था कि रिया उनके घर अपनी ड्रग्स छोड़ गई थीं। दोनों के बीच इसी को लेकर बातचीत हुई थी।

किसी भी सेलिब्रिटी को क्लीन चिट नहीं

सूत्रों की मानें तो एनसीबी ने अब तक जितने भी सेलेब्स से पूछताछ की है, उनमें से किसी को भी फिलहाल क्लीन चिट नहीं दी गई है। इसके अलावा 20 हाई प्रोफाइल ड्रग पैडलर जांच एजेंसी की राडार पर हैं। इसके साथ ही 7 मेल एक्टर्स को भी समन भेजने की तैयारी है। इन 7 एक्टर्स के नाम अब की पूछताछ में सामने आए हैं और एनसीबी चीफ ने मुंबई में मौजूद अपनी टीम को इन्हें समन भेजने की इजाजत दे दी है।

‘Uneasy no war, no peace status’: IAF chief says Indian forces prepared for 'any eventuality' on Ladakh standoff

New Delhi: The present security scenario along our northern frontiers is at an uneasy "no war no peace" status, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria said on Tuesday, referring to the prolonged border row with China in eastern Ladakh.

In an address at a conference, Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria said the Indian Air Force has responded to the situation with rapidity and is fully resolved to counter any "misadventure" in the region.

"The present security scenario along our northern frontiers is at an uneasy no war no peace status. Our defense forces are prepared for any eventuality as you are aware," the Chief of Air Staff said.

Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria said the recent induction of Rafale jets along with previous acquisitions of C-17 Globemaster aircraft as well as Chinook and Apache helicopters have provided the IAF with substantial tactical and strategic capability enhancement.

"Airpower will be a crucial enabler in our victory in any future conflict. It is, therefore, imperative that IAF obtains and maintains a technological edge over our adversaries," he said at the conference on energising the Indian aerospace industry.

Five French-made multi-role Rafale fighter jets were inducted into the IAF on 10 September. The fleet has been carrying out sorties in eastern Ladakh in the last couple of weeks.

The IAF chief also said that the raising of two squadrons of light combat aircraft Tejas and integration of some indigenous weapons on Su-30 MKI combat jets in a very reduced time frame has been the "most promising" development, reflecting the country's capabilities to develop indigenous military hardware.

CLAT 2020: Answer key released at consortiumofnlus.ac.in; candidates can raise objections before midnight

CLAT 2020 answer key | The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2020 answer key 2020 has been released by the Consortium of National Law Universities at consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The entrance examination for admission to 22 national law universities was conducted across the country on 28 September.

The CLAT answer keys for both the undergraduate and post graduate examinations have been published. Question papers of the exam have also been released along with the answer key.

As per the official notification, candidates can raise objections, if any, by logging into their CLAT account and clicking on the Raise Objections button.

The last date to submit objections is 29 September midnight after which the link will be de-activated.

"Objections received over email or phone calls will not be considered," the Consortium said.

The final answer key of CLAT 2020 will be published on 3 October.

Steps to check and download CLAT 2020 UG and PG answer keys:

Step 1: Log on to Consortium of National Law Universities website - consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

Step 2: Tap on the CLAT 2020 link on the homepage

Step 3: You will be directed to a new page where under Notifications tab, opt for the relevant answer key link.

Step 4: A PDF document with the answer key will appear on the screen.

Step 5: Save and verify your responses with the answer key.

1946 में आज ही के दिन जोहरा की फिल्म 'नीचा नगर' को मिला था कान्स में सर्वोच्च सम्मान, 'सांवरिया' थी आखिरी फिल्म, 102 साल की उम्र में हुआ निधन

गूगल ने दिवंगत भारतीय अभिनेत्री जोहरा सहगल को डूडल बनाकर सम्मान दिया है। इस डूडल में फूलों के बीच जोहरा को डांस करते हुए दिखाया है जिसे पार्वती पिल्लई नाम की कलाकार ने बनाया है। जोहरा का 29 सितंबर को ना जन्मदिन है और ना ही डेथ एनिवर्सरी, ऐसे में आप सोच रहे होंगे कि यह डूडल क्यों बनाया गया है?

दरअसल, जोहरा की फिल्म 'नीचा नगर' को आज ही के दिन 1946 में कान्स फिल्म फेस्टिवल में रिलीज किया गया था। फिल्म ने कान्स का सर्वोच्च सम्मान, पाल्मे डी'ओर अवॉर्ड भी जीता था।

‘सांवरिया’ थी अंतिम फिल्म

जोहरा ने बतौर नृत्यांगना वर्ष 1935 में करियर की शुरुआत की थी। सात दशक तक हिंदी सिनेमा में अपना योगदान देने वाली जोहरा की अंतिम फिल्म 2007 में आई 'सांवरिया' थी। 10 जुलाई, 2014 को दिल का दौरा पड़ने से उनका निधन हो गया था। वह 102 साल की थीं।

थिएटर से तय किया फिल्मों का सफर

जोहरा सहगल का जन्म 27 अप्रैल, 1912 को उत्तर प्रदेश के सहारनपुर शहर के रोहिल्ला पठान परिवार में हुआ। वे मुमताजुल्ला खान और नातीक बेगम की सात में से तीसरी संतान थीं। जोहरा का बचपन उत्तराखंड के चकराता में बीता। जोहरा ने पृथ्वीराज कपूर के पृथ्वी थिएटर में 14 साल तक नाटकों में अभिनय किया और इसके बाद फिल्मों में आईं।

फिल्मों में आने के बाद भी जोहरा ने रंगमंच का दामन नहीं छोड़ा। उन्होंने 75 की उम्र के बाद ‘दिल से’, 'हम दिल दे चुके सनम', 'चीनी कम', 'कभी खुशी कभी गम', ‘वीर-जारा’ और 'सांवरिया' जैसी फिल्मों में यादगार अभिनय किया।

जोहरा सहगल का परिवार

14 अगस्त, 1942 को जोहरा की शादी पेंटर, डांसर और साइंटिस्ट कामेश्वर सहगल से हुई। उनके दो बच्चे बेटी किरन और बेटा पवन हैं। अंतिम दिनों में जोहरा अपनी बेटी के साथ ही रह रही थीं।

बेटी ने लिखी 'जोहरा सहगल: फैटी' नाम से जीवनी

वर्ष 2012 में बेटी किरन ने 'जोहरा सहगल: फैटी' नाम से उनकी जीवनी भी लिखी। ओडिशी नृत्यांगना किरन ने दुख जताते हुए कहा था कि अंतिम दिनों में उनकी मां को सरकारी फ्लैट तक नहीं मिला, जिसकी उन्होंने मांग की थी। उन्होंने कहा कि वह जिंदादिली और ऊर्जा से हमेशा लबालब रहती थीं।
